Start with some cute, clean fabric and some cloth diapers.
Cut a strip of fabric 4 inches wide. Don't worry about the length as long as it is slightly longer than your diaper.
Iron the sucker flat.
Fold the short end over about a quarter inch and press.
Now take your fabric strip and lay it on the diaper pretty side down. I'm lining up the edge of the fabric with the stitching at the bottom of the diaper. I'm not too worried about the diaper not being completely even with the fabric because the diapers edges are really pretty squirrely.
Pin it.
Notice that my finished edge is just slightly past the edge of the diaper. It is not as pretty that way, but 99% of people would never notice it, especially on something that's made to clean up puke and poo.
Stitch the fabric on using about a quarter inch seam allowance and then open and press the thing flat.
Trim your unfinished edge of the pretty fabric leaving about an inch overhang.
Fold and press that edge twice just like you did at the beginning. This time trying to make it roughly even with the edge of the diaper.
Press and stitch (or just press and stitch it later if you're feeling lazy).
Now take the bottom edge and press it down about a quarter inch or so.
Fold the fabric in half and line the edge up just slightly higher than your stitched edge.
Stitch it down close to the folded edge of the pretty fabric. Now, only one line of stitching will show on each side.
The finishing touches will be stitching the edges closed and adding any details.
It looks like a lot but I really broke down each process a bit so it looks more complicated than it really is.
